Default Side Curtain Windshield Fasteners - Thread?

Does anyone know the thread size of the repro windshield fastener kit (A-37103)? I don't have a kit here to check. I was about to run a 10-32 tap through the stanchion holes to chase the threads but decided to measure the old fastener first. Good thing! Appears to be 10-30, not 10-32, which is a special tap but I'm wondering what the repro fasteners are? Are they cut correctly to 10-30?

This is the kit: http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/se...7103&x=89&y=10

Well, that figures. I don't know why I thought the repro stuff would be correct. I looked at the Lift-The-Dot studs that are sold individually. They say 10-32.

Thanks anyway.

I got all mine from LB and they were 10-32. Fit both old and new parts.

1) I checked my thread pitch gauge, and a 30tpi feeler doesn't exist.
2) 30tpi isn't even included in a tap drill chart I'm looking at.
3) I've accumulated a pretty good collection of tiny taps over the years...but 10-30 isn't present.

The thread on your OLD fastener is most likely stretched from overtightening...creating the allusion of less threads per inch.

I tried installing a 10-32 screw into the hole left by one of the original LTD studs. It went in about 1 1/2 turns then stopped. Retried the old LTD and it screwed right in. That's what made think I better check the threads. And yes, 10-30 taps exist. And yes, my thread gauge has 30tpi.

It's mute point now since the repro studs are 10-32. I'll just recut the holes to 10-32.

Neither the books pictured, nor several parts catalogs I scanned indicate how many studs required...Although...Bratton's lists kit A37160 as follows:

Windshield post curtain studs-for open car
-12 original type studs made from brass, nickel plated.1928-35
(the picture shows 2 different lengths)
Buy the kit & you should be fine??

A 10-30 screw is called a Special Thread (N.S.), outside dia. of screw is .1900, the tap drill is a #22, and the decimal equivalent of the drill is 0.1570. I ran into the same problem the other day and did as mentioned above - retapped to 10-32 and locktited it in.

You are correct, 10-32 tap size is #21, but Special Thread N.S. 10-30 is #22, which is what I think the originals were tapped. But is a moot point, unless fixing originals, as replacements are 10-32 N.F.
