fitting 29 splash guard
I am helping a guy work on his 29 Town sedan and am having some issues. I know the problem lies with either or all three:
a) The radiator is an aftermarket b) The hood shelves are original but have taken a beating c) The splash guard/apron is original but also taken some hits. Here is the problem. I cannot get the pieces to line up and fit. Without the rad installed the pieces will not fit well. With the rad installed, I cannot get the apron to fit as the rad appears to sit to far forward. So looking at the pics, (1st two w/o rad installed) can someone tell me what needs to be fixed? He bought new sheet metal which turned out to be junk-actually less than that. Thanks, Mike

Re: fitting 29 splash guard
I would use a ice pick or long punch to line up the screw holes, while starting the other screws. Don't tighten them down until you get them all going. Put the radiator in last.

Re: fitting 29 splash guard
it looks like your radiator is to far forward. most reproduction do NOT fit well. I would long gate the lower hole and move it back.

Re: fitting 29 splash guard
having been down that road myself, I agree with jw, you need a better-fitting radiator. there are good repros of the splash apron being made. I haven't seen the hood shelves completely so I should not judge, but those look suspiciously like repros, due to the sharp angle at the bend .

Re: fitting 29 splash guard
It is possible the shelves are repos but the steel is really thick. Some questionable things have been replaced so we are trying to figure out what is what. I now need an expert to come over and check things out.

Re: fitting 29 splash guard
At this point, I assume they are. Then again who knows. They may be older repos.

Re: fitting 29 splash guard
The both look original,...especially the apron. With out more photos you can't tell if
your mixing the parts (years). |
