The bushings that I've used had a spiral oil groove . One end of the groove stops before reaching the end of the bushing and the other end of the oil groove goes all the way to the end of the bushing. In my opinion the most important thing is to make sure that the closed groove end of the sector bushing faces the outside of the sector housing or it will leak.

The alignment slot for the headlamp switch faces down.

Actually it does sound like he is asking about the bushing in both of the first two sentences, but I assumed he meant the housing for the bushing.
