Default rear spring measurements

I have a rear spring for a coupe,8 leaves, that is off the car,and is a spare. I checked the measurements between the mid point of the eyes, was 40 1/2 ". Brattons catalogue shows 39 1/2 " -39 11/16' Also the measurement from the top to the straight line from the centre point of the eyes was 16 5/8",the catalogue shows 16 7/8 " - 17 1/16 " The question , is the spring too far out of tollerances,or ok to restore. It is other wize in nice condition thanks

One of those dimensions indicates the spring is too high (which is most unusual - they usually sag) and the other says it is slightly low. Check where the measurements were taken from. Sometimes they are taken from the line between the centre of the shackle eyes and other times they are what you would measure if the spring were standing on your workbench.
Whatever you find, don't throw the spring away. Even if it is too far out of spec for you, it can be reset for not very much money.

Synchro909 ,thanks for your reply, the catalogue says to measure to centre on the eyes for both. With that in mind, the centre top to line centered on the eyes is too shallow, and the width is too long. But only by a bit

I don't follow your reasoning - I think BOTH of the measurements indicate that the spring is sagged somewhat, i.e. it is wider than it should be and also shorter. Is it not?

I just reread the original post. I misread it first time - sorry. Both readings indicate a slight but not too drastic sagging.
Mia culpa.
