Default HOW TO IDENTIFY a 6V and a 12V VOLTAGE REGULATOR

I have a few old voltage regulators like those that were mounted on the firewall in 1940' and 50's Fords. THERE ARE NO SPECIFICATION MARKINGS ON THEM as they were painted over.

Is there a way to tell which regulators are 12V and which are 6V without installing them in a car?

They are not installed in a vehicle. I do have a 6/12V battery charger.
Thanks. Jim

Any stampings on frame bottoms or sides? Could be under the covers too.
