Default 289 radiator question

Having some problems with antifreezing spitting out of overflow when shutting engine off even though temp not over 180 degree. So put on overfolw tank and still problem with filling tank and overflow. Some say to change pressure cap (now 13#) to 6# ? Any suggestions. Thanks for help.

With the cap off, check for bubbles in rad while running motor, you may have a compression leak.

How much water is it dumping, a quart? If you let it dump a quart and run it again will it dump a second quart? If you go with a side can you want to go with an over flow can, not just a catch can, the over flow can should have a design that will let the water that has been overflowed go back into the radiator after the engine cools and will suck the water back in, a catch will just catch it. The difference will be that the overflow will have a tube that extends into the caught water and will suck it back in. It's ok to spit a quart and have it draw back in.

Are you filling the radiator too high?? It should not be filled all the way to the top. Leave room for expansion.

I had a similar problem, water spit out every time I used it I bought one of those stainless, round, coolant recovery cans and never had a problem after installed.

Thanks I'm in process of adding an overflow can and new radiator cap, hopefully that will do it. I have only filled rad to where I can see it in the filler pipe.
