Default Re-Chroming Bumpers

Can anybody give me a ball park guess/estimate of what it would cost to re-chrome two 1937 Ford bumpers and four bumper guards? The pieces need no repair, just prep and re-plating. Thank you ahead of time.

I use Courtesy Plating in Addison IL.
I haven't taken him an early bumper yet but based on what he charged me for a Mustang bumper I would say around $200 - $250. On the bumper guards probably around $50- $60 each piece. Plus shipping both ways, depends on where you are located.

Thanks Roger and Thanks Scott.

I live in the Northwest Indiana / Chicago Metro Region, so Addison is not very far from here. Prices from both members sound reasonable to me considering what you are getting in the end.

Thanks.

You can add your location to your profile..makes it easier for guys to answer some of the questions.

If you go to Courtesy its actually a Villa Park address. I-355 to North Avenue, go east a few miles, just after the railroad tracks turn right on Addison Rd. They are upstairs in back of the body shop. Victor is the guy to see, if he isn't there you talk to his brother. I first started going there in about 1998. Stopped in a couple weeks ago just to make sure he's still around and was pleased to see them.
If you need any welding stuff Terrace Welding Supply is a huge supplier in the western suburbs and they are right across the street.

Chromeplaterjosh on HAMB runs a family owned company in IN. Did great work for me. Read more here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...omeplater+josh Keep in mind that even though your bumpers may be is good condition, the old chrome plating must first be removed by the plater before the triple chrome plating process begins. Whatever you decide, STAY AWAY FROM BUMPER BOYS.

Keep in mind that a good chrome plate job on bumpers can more readily be had by a shop that removes the old chrome chemically rather than with a grinder as most low cost shops do. Thus the price is higher. You get what you pay for.

I had seen a piece on My Classic Cars a few days ago with Jay Leno about a low cost, better for the environment type of process, maybe not a bumper thing but could be used for other parts maybe. Hey I can paint like this, lots of runs !
Check out the video.

I will have to agree with Roger. It cost me around $300 for my 39 bumpers and about around the $65 for the bumper gaurds also. Pretty well right on.

I try to sand blast the back of everything that I have plated. A lot of shops don't take this step and plate over the rust on the back side of an item. In a short period of time the rusty area starts to grow and creeps onto the good side and starts to raise the new chrome off the item. I never trust the plater to do as he says and have had to take pieces to a second shop to have them done right.
