Not true. If the Optima is only moderately discharged, a regular charger works fine. If they get real low, a regular charger won't get them going. In that case, I have a variable DC power supply I use to get them "started", and then put tem on a regular charger. If you don't have the power supply, hooking them in parralel with a good 6 volt battery works as well. I do realize that your chances of having another fully charged 6V battery is probably less than having a variable power supply.

I use a AA 1.5 volt battery to run my clock.

It depends on which size (group) battery you want or need. The latest Optima size battery will not fit properly in a 2LF case unless the bottom of the case is cut out to match the footprint of the Optima. Then this would sit on a thin plastic tray that looks like the bottom of a battery. The 6v RT Optima fits much better in the 2HF case, but this size battery does not fit well in some of the early V8's where he battery is located under the floor pan. There is a higher battery door made by Larry Corsair (sp) for '35-'36 passenger cars that will allow a 2HF battery to fit in these cars.
John,
The latest Optima is approx. 3/8" higher than the old Optima that would fit perfectly in our old 2LF that has been hogged out. That is why I designed a new battery door cover so when you look underneath you can't detect the Optima. The last thing you want to deal with is good old battery acid on your frame.
Happy V8ing!
