Default 1939 Ford Trunk

Does anyone know if you can mount a 40 Ford trunk handle on a 39 Ford trunk lid? The car I bought is painted and the trunk handle was removed and filled, I wanted to put the stock 40 handle back on but found out it is a 39 trunk lid. Thanks.

The latch is the same just the holes are a different pattern and bigger. So you should be OK, if you need a pattern I have a 40 lid hanging on the wall.
