Default Engine colours

Hi,
all the engine were painted green ?
My engines and transmissions (July '28) were painted green ?
Mine is painted as the FORD tractor's engine (light blue), same as used on GPW JEEPS during the WWII.
Thanks in advance for your information.

Engine block, head, side cover, crank pulley, intake manifold, clutch housing, bell housing, transmission, water input casting and goose neck, water pump are engine green.

Front and rear motor mount, oil drain tube, fan, generator, starter, pan, universal clam shell and behind are black.

I like high temperature cast iron color paint on the exhaust manifold even though they came with no finish.

Canadian Manufactured cars used Ford Engine Green and my have also used Ford Engine Gray. It is referenced in the Canadian section of the Judging Standards.

I have never seen the Ford Engine Gray, although I would like to get a sample.

Does your Engine have a Canadian Serial Number ?

might you have a tractor motor?
i think finding not original engine colors adds a great mystery.
my station wagon cowl came to me ford green (sort of ), i've worked my way thru to the tern coat.
the motor was manila brown. i wonder why the mix up.
and my nineteen forty seven willys cj2a has a mid thirties block with a willys jeep head on it.
all painted factory rebuild red.
was the color decision made for factory and shipping reasons ?
indications of compressions, horsepower, implications ?

My June '28 Canadian-built Phaeton engine had traces of blue-gray paint behind the engine mounts. It had been repainted the dark Ford green when I bought it.

I would like to see that! I bet it is not factory original.

doubter,
enough research has been put forth to determine that i do in fact own a post war vehicle with a pre second war motor. no need to argue the fact, the desert is littered with compilations .
i'v acquired a mysterious item and have narrowed it down by way of matching numbers.
i'm in no way a purest, however enjoying the functioning originality of the design and intentions of application is all i'm after .
as for charlie jeep's motor color, i find it interesting enough to ask, if the motor # matches the frame # ? then you know what you've got a gray A motor.
otherwise look into it as some advancements had occurred rapidly. what ever your intentions are and direction you go with it is up to you.
if it is originally from another vehicle, tractor, or less mobile functioning equipment and put to use in your model A , good for you and keep it running .
thanks for sharing .

Not necessarily. The engine could easily have been rebuilt, painted and put back into the same car. This happened a lot back in the day when every small town had a mechanic/machinist. Even here in Quincy, back in the '60s, there was a guy who could pour babbitt and bore blocks.

My car came from a ranch near Bieber, in very rural northern California. It was parked in the barn in '47 and I got it in '62. It had the original block with 0.040" pistons.

Default Engine colours

Hi Guys,
thanks for your replies and interest in this topic.
My Model A 1928 (and all the Model A in Argentina are RHD). Do you think that all the cars were produced in Canada ? or in the USA?
Here is a photo of my engine Serial Number

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
It say FORD USA.
Somebody can post a photo of a Canadian Serial Number ?
Note : impossible to see the frame number
Cheers,
Charlie Jeep

The Hollander interchange book shows that Willys used the same 4cyl head
from 1933 to 1948.

I stand corrected. The Go Devil engine was developed by Willys in 1937 and used in the Willis Jeep till the 1950 Hurricane F head was designed. The Go Devil engines were all painted red from the factory.

This does not have anything to do with the color of a Model A engine, whatever the origin.

Export models were built in Canada and shipping from CA.
Do you have Roberts screws in your interior wood framing, if so Canada. (square indent for screw head)

There is a 1931 Canadian Victoria that just got listed on ebay... looks to be relatively unmolested. The engine looks gray to me.

Here is a photo of a Canadian Engine Number. Note this is a CAE number, many publications, including the Judging Standards (not certain about 2011), list CAW twice instead of CAE. Which was produced 2-1930 until 3-1930. I have my Canadian Phaeton with me and I will try to get a photo of the number on it shortly.
