brokn venturi
i posted a question in the wrong forum,as it was to the editors rather than the membership. i broke a venturi in half with equal parts in the upper and lower zenith 2 carb. i wanted tp know if anyone hag a way to remove same.i found a tool handmade that was a length of pipe with a threaded rod and nuts through the pipe with a stop on the end that was same diameter as the broken venturi. you lined it up against the venturi and screwed it down to remove the piece.looks like it may be worth a try. any other suggestions? thank you.

Re: brokn venturi
I've used a hacksaw blade cutting it in two places and knock it out. timely but worked for me.

Re: brokn venturi
I've used a propane torch to heat the potmetal, but you need a full face shield and leather apron because that stuff will splatter and pop as it's heated. A tool as mentioned is the best way.

Re: brokn venturi
I found a screwdriver with a rubber grip that happens to be the right size. A few hammer taps and it is out.

Just went thru this yesterday. I tried Tom's method in the past and like he says be ready for some poppin. This time I used my air saw and cut it in two and knocked it out.

Heat the carb up with a torch, then quench it with cool water. They'll slide right out every time.

Re: brokn venturi
Good idea to wear a full face shield. I had one explode and 1/8 inch thick piece of pot metal as big as your thumb went flying off into the yard.
I have to assume that it was one piece from the hole in the venturi, never did find the piece! Sorta like a small grenade going off right in your face ... scary! Last edited by Benson; 05-02-2012 at 07:47 AM. |
