Mr. Seery: Do you know if the early 12 V sending units look the same as the 6V or was the design entirely different?

I do not, I need to check into that. I know they used the same basic system into at least the 70s, but not sure how similar they were when compared side by side.

I just reinstalled the fuel tank sender on my '48 Ford. It was repaired by John Wolf company in Willoughby Ohio. It was pricey but it works fine now. Thank You to all who responded especially Zeke who gave me the name of the repair place.
