Default 35 Ford Front Brake Drums

Seeing as 1935 front brake drums are becoming scarce would 1940 thru 48 drums work with wire wheel spacers. Has any tried this-?

Would need later spindles to match later drums I believe. I have a pair of nice drums I believe are 35. Maybe earlier. They are “ shake n bake” cleaned & one is turned.
Cheers

Been down this road.
While the drum is similar the set back of the backing plate is different because the 35 backing plate needs to center over the rod thru the king pin.
Both the early and late V8 Hub/drum styles present the same issue. When the drum is set onto the spindle it sets out 3/4” or more away from the 35 backing plate.

I was quoted $330+ to have original drums relined. While this seems high it is the best option to get a drum with a thick rim. Over turned drums have been used for years and while everyone po-pos it no one can remember a drum failing. The biggest issue is losing its braking efficiency even though it is re enforced the rim gets thin and heats up. The 12.060 everyone allows for turning to takes into account a bit more for road wear.

Be careful buying “good drums” without knowing the reputation of the seller. By no means is this said to discredit another, but a drum measuring 12.40 can still be out of round. I have several that I paid to have shipped only to find after truing they were beyond my liking.
Shipping drums 2 ways plus re lining and shoes will put them north of 500 bucks!
I am still looking for two good drums that are not warped!
