Re: 6 volt regulator
They are where you find them. I don't think anyone makes them anymore, and there are no gigantic stashes of regulators anywhere.

Re: 6 volt regulator
I bought mine from Baxters in Lawrence, Ks., but they are for sale at a lot of places but they are from China. So far I haven't had any trouble with it.

Re: 6 volt regulator
The short answer is: not sure. While I had a well regarded rebuild shop look at a generator for the '46, I learned that their experience had been that many are not good fresh out of the box. In fact, the newest one I took in (from Dennis Carpenter, I believe) was bad. Since the 40s use the same unit, you may find this true as well.

Re: 6 volt regulator
My friend bought a new one from Dennis carpenters last summer, he started it up today, no charge I went to check what the problem was and it’s the regulator, I can jump bat to field and it will charge, took off cover and contacts look good

Re: 6 volt regulator
Quite often NEW OLD STOCK voltage regulators will not work because the three contact sets have become oxidized or tarnished during storage and inactivity. To fix this run a doubled over strip of very fine wet and dry paper (not emery or sandpaper) through each set of contacts a few times and then spray with pressure pack contact cleaner and blow off gently with compressed air whilst holding the points open. That will usually fix it. Make sure you dont bend anything.. Regards, Kevin.
