Default muffler replacement

'30 Model A has been running like a champ lately, thanks to the help of the Ford Barn crew. Next project is to replace my manifold and muffler. . . any hints would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The muffler is pretty straightforward, do a search regarding the Manifold, you need to take your intake manifold into account when replacing the exhaust manifold. The question would be, Why do you need to replace it?

Hi Joe,

For manifolds, many different situations, many different respected opinions.

After seeing my warped manifold, thinking about time involved to drive 40 miles one way to get it milled, & 40 miles to pick it up, (total 160 miles fighting traffic), with the rear possibly still sagging, I called a vendor first to insure that the new intake "and" new exhaust were "both" made by the same manufacturer & that milling flat would not be required & I could be assured of a perfect fit.

Installed new precise fitting manifold with:

a. Ford designed new gland rings to prevent future exhaust manifold sagging; &,

b. Copper gaskets.

For me, while still working, I prefer to do it right & do it once because time is money .................. but each to his own with all kinds of different circumstances.

Yes Aries muffler, and be aware of sagging exhaust that causes problems with fitment and leaks.

Go with the aries muffler but also get the clamp from them, by far a better product than some of the ones from other venders.

I sent my intake manifold to Bert's and purchased the exhaust manifold from them. They machined the intake and exhaust manifolds for me so they are perfectly aligned and flat. Cost me $45 for the machining. Steve recommended the two piece copper gasket without the glands. I'd give him a call and send them there.

That seems like a very fair price for that service. They must have invested in a permanent fixture for that machining process to do it for that price.
