Default 40 Body to Frame Pads:

Is it possible to change the body to frame pads on a 40 sedan without taking the body off?My pads are shot on my 40 driver condition sedan.I think this has been asked before and just trying again to get any feed back!

Yeah, but you do need to lift the body up some and the old ones can be pretty stuck sometimes. Fiddly.

Fiddly,I was planning on just changing a few at a time by just lifting the body up a small section at a time.Just enough to slide the new pad in.Would this create any problems?

I would think you'd have to loosen all of the body bolts, and lift the body evenly.

There are 5 bolts on each side on a 40.

Quite possible to do but you will have to back off all the body bolts, release the bolts holding the inner front fenders and grille. Also have to disconnect the fender braces front and rear and then take the body bolts right out of one side, jack the body up an inch or so. Remove and replace the mounts, replace the bolts and then do the other side. Check that the rear bumper bracket rubbers are also free from the body before you lift. Front ones should be OK. You might also have to have a look at the battery support frame and the steering column. The job will be a lot easier to do if you have access to a hoist.

Is there a diagram that shows where all the body mount pads are located on a 1940 two door sedan?

The pad kit that I bought for my '39 has a very abbreviated illustration of where each different pad is located. I would suspect most kits come with one of these?

when I removed the body of my '40 some of the pads were really stuck and if it was not stuck to the frame, it was stuck to the body.

Look on Macs wesite, they may have a diagram with a pad kit. Pad kits I've used have chassis diagrams with the various pads locations. Also remember, the pads have a shoulder moulded around the hole which locates the pads into the corresponding chassis hole. When I say lift it some (the body), I mean enough to be able to get good access for removing stuck pads, replacing the new ones and as mentioned you'll have to loosen most of, if not the whole car. I'd remove all the body bolts and the front fenders will have to be separated too. You don't want to lever it this way and that and end up twisting the thing and screwing door gaps etc.
