Go to the RM auction website at www.rmauctions.com
Click onto Results and then Click onto Dingman Auction.
The results on the vehicles was pretty staggering!

Yes, they do! The prices posted include the buyers premium charged, which was 10% on vehicles and 15% on nostalgia items and signs. On buyers premiums alone RM Auctions realized approximately $2.2 million. ...LouB.

These cars are in 'a league of their own'. He bought premium cars and than had top restorers do a body off restore. Just not the same as a 'Barrett-Jackson' candidate. There are cars and than 'there are cars'...........apparently?

The 36 Cabriolet you are reffering to is not your average Ford production vehicle. It is one of two with hand crafted bodies by German coachbuilder Glaser.
If you know the level of quality most of Mr. Dingmans cars were built/restored to, you may understand the prices paid at the auction.
Not to mention, marketing that was done in preparation for the auction by RMAuctions. Goes a long ways past listing on a web forum.

Yes, lot 804 did sell for $118k. However, it is a high end resto-rod built to extremely high standards. I can assure you that it cost more than the selling price to build it.
Remember, these are not your typical cruisenight or even 'car show' vehicles. Most of the restored cars in Mr Dingmans collections would have no problem placing in the most stringent point shows.
The resto-rods are also of the highest caliber build quality. The cars were not built for the average car collector/enthusiast. They were bult for a man who expected nothing short of perfection. He has the means to have them built to his standards, and did just that.
However, I do agree that the german Glaser built 36 is not as pleasing to the eyes as a standard US production 36. But keep in mind that it was built to showcase the coachbuilders ability and be more than a standard production cabriolet.
Many of the cars built in the US by coachbuilders had 'unique' characteristics. Sometimes they were done just to set them apart from the other vehicles of the times.

I just had a close up inspection of the 38 Lincoln/Zephyr Coupe from the Dingman Auction. The detail and craftsmanship is almost beyond belief!

(It was actually delivered, by mistake, to a friend of mine in Campbell, CA that was expecting the 38 Lincoln/Zephyr Convertible Sedan from the Dingman Auction.)

My friend agreed to store the Coupe until it can be redelivered to the rightful owner.

the cars at the Dingman Auction were breath taking. So glad I live 30 minutes from Hampton, N. H. and took the time to go. Just restoration in a league of its own. Great display of Fords.
