Default Vocational School Visit

This coming Friday our club will be visiting the local Vocational School with our cars. I will be doing a short talk about the Model A. I was reviewing my notes from last year and was wondering if part of it is correct. Those notes say:

"These prices did not include a spare tire, tube and bumpers which were extra."

This information was taken from The Legendary Model A Ford written by Peter Winnewisser.

My Question is is this information true as any Bill of Sale I have ever seen it does not list a spare tire, tube and bumpers?

Please help as I don't want to put out any incorrect information.

Thanks for your time.

Years ago I posted some bills of sale and they listed oil, gas, and bumpers as extras, as I recall.
I'll try to do a search for them, but they may have been back when Shelly owned Fordbarn.

OK, here's a thread on the invoices that shows bumpers were extra. Well worth reading the whole thread.

Thanks Tom for your response and the link. I will keep that info in my remarks for the students.

Based on research and factory photos, almost all new Fords left the factory with a battery, oil in the engine, and bumpers attached. Yes, many customers were charged extra for those items however it appears this was a sales gimmick for the Dealer to pocket some extra money on a sale. Imagine that!!

I thought the idea of listing bumper, oil, and gas as extra was this would allow Ford to advertise the Model A with a lower price.
