Default mercury trans problem

hi everyone. the shift levers on my 3 spd od trans are very loose. how do I get the pins out that hold them on and do I replace the pins with bolts? these are the ones coming out of trans. thanks

Grind off the head of the pin, then attempt to drive it out with a drift punch with a 1/4" tip. Do not go crazy swinging a heavy hammer as the pins are usually swedged into place. If they don't budge, you'll have to carefully drill the pin with a smaller bit to relieve the tightness, then try again with the punch and hammer.

The Merc levers are rolled pressed steel, and often are cracking from stress. The pin holes are often sloppy too. You probably won't find new levers anywhere, so repairing them yourself is your only option. Mig weld up any cracks. You can also weld some mig wire into the pin holes and redrill them for a tight fit again.
