Default Anyone have a Stromberg 97 Carburetor on the Model A?

If you have a Stromberg 97 on your Model A what is the color of your spark plugs electrode and porcelain?

Im guessing hes asking about spark plug color... But ideally it shouldnt matter what setup you have as air fuel mix gets sucked into the cyl, gets compressed, goes bang. my guess is his carb isnt tuned right or timing is off.

You have to jet it properly for your application.

My 97 does not have the factory jets. It has been jetted especially for my engine (by the engine builder).

I have two 97's on my engine.
Plugs burn with normal coloration.
Ignition timing is critical to run right.

Timing is perfect, but the plug is white, is the perfect color range tan? Iam thinking that white means too lean a mixture.

If it was stock and you had sooty plugs, I would say try hotter plugs!
If you are doing a proper plug check?, then I would say try cooler plugs.
If you checking your plugs after a drive?, then I would say more fuel is needed

If thier white white that usually signifys your burning water. Can you post a pic of what you have?

Yea ideally tan is what your going for on any engine.

Modern fuel burns cleaner than years ago but plugs should be clean with some color. All carbs mix a given amount of fuel for the amount of air going thru them, so jets should be stock or nearly stock irregardless of of the engine. On a 97 this is .045, and is the best place to start. I've run many Stromberg's over the years and only one needed jets other than stock. As a "for instance", I am now running 3 Stromberg 81's on my speedster, all with stock jets. The only thing I have done is not run the center accelerator pump.

I had the stock .045, and changed it to a .043, I think I will put the 45 back in.

I have a 97 on my Tudor. I also tried .043 jets and it was too lean. Now use .045 and it is perfect. I determined this with spark plug color (too white) and an air fuel meter. My plugs run light tan.

I changed to the .043, Iam going back the .045 because of the same issue.

My carb came with .045's. They were changed out to a .046 & a .047. Runs great.

Every engine is different and when you get two 97's it is even more fun.

I am running a single 97 with a tube header on an otherwise stock motor. I am running .043 jets at 6000' elevation. I think I am going to try a .042 set.

You're going right along with the book at 6,000 feet...Ford called for two numbers down from sea level jetting at 5,000, two more at 10,000.
