Default Flywheel question

I am wanting to go to a lighter flywheel with a V-8 clutch. Would I be better off modifying my A flywheel or adapting a V-8 flywheel?

V8 flywheel requires starter drive modifications, reversing the starter drive and installing an outboard bearing on the shaft. A lightened stock flywheel is much easier to deal with. I use a V8 flywheel on my modified roadster and have done this modification a few times. I don't think it would be worth the hassle except for competition use. If an "off the shelf" starter could be found then it would be a different story.

Use the A flywheel. Modifications are a pain in the A.

Does anybody in the Los Angeles area do the flywheel modification at a reasonable price?

I am not in LA but I have shipped several to that area. I can do any weight you want. I don't post prices here but you can call or check out my web site for info. The phone number is on the web page.

Chris, you might want to get a copy of Secrets magazine January 2006, page 6 & 7, it has the drawing. There is one misprint on the drawing that was noted in the April 2006 page 35, the dimention 5.735R is actually 5.312R. The April 2006 issue of Secrets has info on the V-8 flywheel pages 14, 15 and 16. I did one 63 lb. model A flywheel on my lathe and turned it down to 36 lb. acording to the drawing.
Good luck, carry on the good work Chris.

Nick,
I don't have a lathe nor do I know anyone with one big enough to handle a flywheel.
