Default 4 cylinder, In car, engine painting

Anybody got any suggestions about preparing the block before painting with the ford green rattle can. It was painted about 8 yrs ago, but now the rust is showing through. I would like to detail it a little and clean it up, but not pull the engine to do it, just prep , mask and spray.

I'd say take as much off the engine as possible. Distributor, carb, generator, starter, water pump. Keep in mind that the early Ford engines were painted in pieces before they were assembled. Block was painted, head was painted, etc and then they were put together. I don't think you can duplicate that effect rattle canning a put together engine.

I would suggest painting it with a brush. Even if it wasn't in the car I would suggest a brush. The brush marks will flow out and it will look great.

x2 with the brush.Clean it good with a wax & grease remover.Use plenty of good light to ensure no shadows in the dark spots.It make take a little longer with the brush but the job will be better

Mine is black on one side and green on the other. I was also thinking of painting it in the car just to make it more presentable (not going for show quality). I was also leaning on using a brush. Seems much neater. I would be ticked if the green got on the frame or the fender. {crap, now that I said that, watch me knock the can over on the car}
