Restoration Qs...E.A. horns
With the 2011 revision, page 19-4, there are 2 styles of stampings for E.A.,
on the motor base/projector. 1. Which came first? 2. Is there a date/time line for the change? Thank you, Dudley |

Re: Restoration Qs...E.A. horns
Mot, not trying to bust you up, so correct me if I am wrong on any of this, but I do not beleive the Model "S" is for a Model A. I have always been told the "F" in "FM" is for Ford. I had a very nice model "JM" afew years ago, it was about 1/4" shorter in the bell than the "FM", but I never did figure out car it actually came off of. Rod

Re: Restoration Qs...E.A. horns
Im not trying to waylay Dudleys thread
Just trying to figure out what the different Stamps he asked about in the new JS I just have a few EA horns and have never seen anything on them so I posted what I have in the hopes others will maybe answer his question I have no Idea what the horn is from It looks like model A I started to restore it decades ago ,and just have it in good shape It is defintely different than all the other horns I've seen The wire has a dab of solder from the field to the brushes, and is original the adjusting nut at the top is very different ,and the hole spacing is very different than later horns Lets see what other stampings are out there the tag is on the bottom of the cover and the EA is at the bottom also Ive shown you mine now lets see yours |

To try & answer d.j.'s question, I believe the EA. cover with the protruding centre preceeded the flat centre cover. EA Laboratories 'FM' horns are the most common type seen on Canadian A's here in NZ . My ''29 still has its original EA, flat centre cover, but Ive seen the other type on original '28's. I regret selling a nice rare GIM horn years ago. |

Re: Restoration Qs...E.A. horns
Tom,
Your not waylaying anything. This was a question to this forum,... for understanding. Your horn in post #5, is the early style, from the beginning of production till May 1928? I've never seen one with the motor cover off, I don't know. Just reread your post, this is the same horn with the " MILEAWAY " tag on it? Interesting. |

Re: Restoration Qs...E.A. horns
Just to share the pic and possibly add to the conversation here is a pic of the back cover of the FM horn I had. I looked but did not find a pic in my files of the JM. Not suprising as I purge my pic's routinely. Rod

Re: Restoration Qs...E.A. horns
The ? was only on the shape of the "E-A" stamped on the horns, I think ??.. I would think that they would put them in order in the standards.. "Early to Late" ??.. Let me check on mine as I have several..

Re: Restoration Qs...E.A. horns
Craig,
The motor base is stamped EA, the adjuster on the bridge is different,( like a Sparton) not what I have. |

Imo, the sans-serif serif and serif font were used interchangeably.

Re: Restoration Qs...E.A. horns
My early 1930 coupe has original horn, EA with serifs. (EA horn was used only 28-29). Indented cover, Sparton hole spacing, no ID markings - cover may have been replaced.
Update: determined it's the wrong cover. nvm. Last edited by Badpuppy; 07-03-2018 at 10:05 AM. |
