Default Main bearing torque...HOT ROD..

I had Jay Steel machine up my B block about 10 years ago. Jay has since past,
and I tried calling Chris for the main bearing torque,..but no answer. This has the "high dollar" main caps. Any of you out there that run these main caps
have an idea (which I do)of the torque for these?

Thanks, Dudley

I would start with the stock torques.

Only if the pitch of the threads used on these bolts is the same as the ones Henry used. I'm sure someone will post the correct figure.

I torque my Bonneville engine to 90psi, using special bolts and studs.

Hey Dudley,
The fasteners do not look stock. If not stock, why/how would stock tightening specs be counted on to work ?
Are those bolts or studs (with allan heads) ? Are the 'thru' block like Fords ?

Hey Dudley, your turn to call me ...but more to the point of asking what do you gain by a certain torque over say 75#. Jim apparently like 90#, and I think that is probably OK but in reality, will we likely see an unkeyed cap "walk" at 75# torque that wouldn't move at 90#, or 100#, -or whatever?? (I am assuming the fastener is a ½"-20, which probably has a 75#-80# torque recommendation.)

You'r correct,..Allen's on 1 and 2 main,.hex head on the rear. Through bolts.
I'd like to be precise on the torque,..too distort the caps and block like it was
when it was align bored and honed. Make sense?

Thanks Jim!,...I'm in the 80-85 pound range(best guess). I'll find out when I
I run the dial bore in the saddles..

LOL,...my "old friend"! Yes, there 1/2"-20, and all the caps have a hollow dowel on each main bolt to stop the walk. I'll know more when I run the stick
in it to measure the bore,...then put the bearings in for the clearance..

Hey Dudley,
Yup, seems like good thinking !
Let up know what you find after bore check.
Mighty nice looking main caps. Did Jay make them up or maybe he dealt with Dan McEachern for caps.

Good old roto-faze ! I like what they make and provide for us in car hobby.
Some OLD racer at the Long Beach swap, was showing me stuff by Joe and had high praise for his product.

Pete, member, here has also often advised us on what Joe makes and that his stuff is good !!

I don't mean to step on the original post but some people may not know that Joe (Roto Faze) makes new steel billet cam blanks, 3 bearing, 5 bearing, with or w/o gear drive, std. dia. 1.557 and oversize for the go fast guys.
