Radiator neck broke loose while driving. What can I expect driving home?
Just lost my radiator neck on a drive out to a movie shoot. Saw the quail turning and thought it was just open, but it came off in my hand.
It's a cool day here, and I made it to my destination without a hiccup. What can expect driving home? |

Dry the top tank and lay some duct tape over it, keep the RPM's low & drive home.Oh yeah, have a good time at the movie shoot. I've done a few & they're a kick for people watching.

Re: Radiator neck broke loose while driving. What can I expect driving home?
Had a similar experience, our car has an aluminium radiator that came with the wrong neck & thread for the Model A cap.
I removed one from a knackered radiator and bonded it in with some sort of epoxy superglue. With only an electric fan, I forgot to switch it on whilst cruising through a town and suddenly the radiator cap with motometer and the radiator neck exploded like a mortar, flying into the air and just missing landing on the car behind, whilst we were lucky the windscreen protected us from most of the boiling water. Luckily we were close to an auto parts shop and purchased sandpaper and more epoxy/metal glue, refixed it and it's still there a year later Keith |

But I suppose that if you are anywhere near a movie set just about everybody has a roll of gaffer's tape. It is handy stuff.

I got home just fine! Honestly, the car is driving pretty normally, I've got the quail and broken piece held on with some tape wrapped around the bottom and fit snugly into the shroud. I'll try and get it to a radiator shop here pretty quick.
