Default Fuel pump for dual two barrel carbs

I picked up an aluminum Edelbrock dual two barrel carb for my 8ba flat head. Is the mechanical fuel pump enough or do I need to run a block off plate and add an electrical fuel pump?

stock pump will work unless you plan on racing with a high peformance engine at high rpm's

The stock pump will do just fine; you could add an electric pump as a secondary (use to prime carb before starting) or if you ever experience the dreaded Vapor Lock...

I use both mechanical for faster start ups and turn it off after. I use a regulator since my pump puts out 3-5lbs and my Strombergs like it around 2˝lbs. So depending on which carbs you use, the stock pump might even be too much.

If you have too much pressure with a stock pump put extra gaskets under pump stand and then some day in the future if the pushrod wears remove extra gaskets.

The stock pump will feed a dozen carbs with 2-1/2 to 3# pressure. If you running more than one carb don't mean your engine is getting twice as much gas. If your feeding the engine more gas than it need all your getting is black sooty spark plugs black smoke out the tail pipe and poor gas mileage. BTW I'm running 4 carbs with straight linkage and my plugs run white. Walt

Seems most fuel these days wont colour the plugs, even here in Australia the 91 which is our lowest octane Ive been watching my plugs for 100's miles now and Im only getting the outer ring dark.. I should be getting some colour as I am running a 50 main jets in the 97.. My pickup loves it..
They are trying to push the E fuel here now..

Thats a good idea Woodpecker, my carbs were new 97's from Uncle Max and they were flooding out the top of the accelerator pump until I put the regulator or electric pump on. Runs great now without problems.

I just run reg gas, sometimes the low grade, I think it's 87 and some time the middle grade. My four 97's were set up by Max 43 main jets, I forget what the power valve no. is. Walt
