Have a 16 Speedster. Idols fine - had a local T specialist work on it. All checked out good. Compression good 57 - 57 - 62 -57. Not overheating. Oil level good. When I backed it out then allowed to idol abruptly stopped. Started with starter loud clacking. Then by crank was tight. Allowed to sit and then by starter cranked. So not to damage rolled into the garage last night.

Ideas? Shop closed for the weekend. Any input appreciated.

Check the starter bendix. Sometimes the springs will break and cause the bendix to stay engaged with the ring gear. I would also drop the inspection plate on the oil pan just to make sure the rods are not loose.

Do I understand that when hand cranked it didn't make any unusual noise? Have you done any work to it recently? Has it been running fine prior to this or is it a new build?

Work was done by professional mechanic specializing in T's. Was not driven due to no current tags. Took home. Unloaded. Ran fine at an idol. Backed out of garage 20 feet and died. Will crank then gets locked up. Then will not crank by starter or crank

I'm thinking that something isn't right in the transmission. If you try to crank it by hand and the electric starter is not in the housing then it has to be something else. Maybe the mechanic lost his wrench (a joke) or something was not assembled right. Try jacking up the rear wheel and see if it will crank(ignition off) in high gear(brake handle forward), that should take the clutch and other stuff out of the equation as it is just straight through like that.

You read my mind. Lever forward rear wheels turn easily. I'm thinking someone dropped a washer or nut and it's floating around then catching. Very frustrated. At least the engine may not be seized. Let's cross the fingers, arms legs and anything else.

That sounds like a fixable if not time consuming problem, it could be much worse. By the way your car looks really nice!

Hey thanks. I've had it a long time. Bought in 1992. Drove to work at a California historical location "Zotts" Alpine beer garden fro about 8 years. Bought a house - got married fast forward 20 years and here we are again. Always brings smiles and love giving rides. Kids are the best. They simply love the old cars.

Wow that is so neat that you drove it to work. I have driven model A's as my regular cars back before I got married. They had a model T at a museum where I worked so I learned a little about them in researching that one. I am looking for a running gear to make a T farm vehicle to use as an ATV and hauling firewood on. They are the original ATV in a way. I am helping an old guy get a couple T's ready to sell so I guess I kind of work on them but don't own one yet other than some motors that I got for parts. They are so interesting to mess with!

Taking the car back to the gent who worked on it. Will update when I have more information. Let's hope there is an easy fix and not a wedding ring floating around in the hogs head......

Magnet and/or magnet clamp might have "come from together" due to a brittle & broken brass magnet clamp screw ?
