Dual Temp Gauges Pick-up Faulty Stat
My primary stock temp sensor is in its original location in passenger side head. Other stock sensor in driver's side head was faulty so removed it to install my after market gauge sensor. Ran car other day for first time in a while. Aftermarket gauge showed normal warm-up and running temp (170) but dash gauge went to maximum. Coolant in radiator tank was bubbling. Figured stat in that head was not opening. Raised RPM's to improve circulation. After a few minutes temp there suddenly dropped to normal. Removed radiator hose on passenger side and tested that stat on kitchen stove. It was sticking closed up to boiling point then opening, so now replacing it.
All this to say such an arrangement was beneficial to identifying a probable cause. Had the stat tested ok I would then suspect the water pump on that side. |
