A couple of 8BA engine questions
I pulled the original 2 bbl manifold in preparation for the 4 bll intake for the fuel injection I am installing, and noticed one intake runner was rusty. I also noticed some of intake bolt holes had water in them.
My question, do the intake bolt holes extend into the water jacket? If so, I imagine there should be thread sealant used when installing the manifold. I rubbed the rusty intake runner and it appears to just be surface rust, the back of the valve looks clean as does the stem. Hopefully not a cracked block and it's just sucking water from the bolt hole and under a faulty gasket. Last thing, should I use Permatex Form-a-gasket on both surfaces to help seal the intake? Your thoughts? Pics of the rusty port and the port next to it. Cheers

Re: A couple of 8BA engine questions
I like the idea of just using grease. If you use sealer on both sides it will be very difficult to remove in future. You can check both surfaces with a straightedge .

Intake bolts do not go to any water.

Re: A couple of 8BA engine questions
Okay, just heading back to the shop to investigate further. I'll blow out the holes and poke a wire down to see if they all bottom...hopefully the water was just leftover from the rain we had a few weeks ago...but why the water damage on intake port cylinder 5? More investigation required.
Thanks! Cheers
