Model B fuel pump
Can someone tell me where I can purchase a new fuel pump for my 32 B pickup? I have been a forum member for several years but this my first attempt at posting a message. Sure hope it works! Thanks for your help.

Re: Model B fuel pump
I am not aware of anyone who repops them. Renners Corner sells the rebuild kits. Are you totally missing one? If so you are at the mercy of ebay or post a want to buy on here.

Re: Model B fuel pump
I don't know if Ken Isidor (aka Ken CT) in Connecticut would be able to help you on this since he is getting out of the carb & fuel pump rebuilding business. His phone number is 1-203-260-9780 , and his email address is [email protected] It's also a possibility that Charlie Schwendler (Charlie ny) in Buffalo would have something.

If you are 'restorer' and need authentic '32 four cyl pump, as said, you may have to search for awhile for the 'real mccoy' / original core to rebuild. However, there are guys here who have , in the past, told of non original pumps that work for your engine. Search past threads for '32 fuel pump'. Finally, to get the CORRECT carcass to rebuild, can be a bit tricky. So, study pictures of original pump appearance and markings, prior to buying. Good luck |

Re: Model B fuel pump
Remember that concours correct rebuilt originals can be very expensive but rebuilt aftermarket replacements can be more reasonable. Be sure the rebuild was done using materials suitable for modern gas. If you can't tell for sure you might want to rebuild it before you install it. As Jim32 posted be sure to check out rennerscorner.com, (734) 428-8424. They are good people and have a lot of Model B parts that you can't find anywhere else.

Re: Model B fuel pump
Somebody once posted that the fuel pump used on the B20 series Volvos will fit perfectly to the mounting boss on the Model B engine and these are available for a reasonable cost. However, the actuating arm isn't at the right length and curvature so it will need to be modified to match that of the Model B pump, basically shortened and recurved.

Re: Model B fuel pump
Charlie, did you ever make a set of top gasket out of the diaphragm material? Seems I recall a while back you were talking about it. Basically a replacement for the cork ring

Re: Model B fuel pump
jim,
The viton squished out of place, it's too slippery. I did find a source for a fine grade of impregnated cork which I'm now using. Charlie |

Don't know whether these pics will help you at all. I'm shaky and camera seems to be that way too. Numbers on pump arm lever: 856297 Numbers on pump mount 'edge': 6253 AC mark/letters on top and on bottom halves. Numbers on inside of pump area next to pump arm: (#starts with either 3 or 5 or 8)then...56320 Note: first number might be imagined , as it is mashed a bit ! So, appears to be six numbers total... Maybe pics will help you: Last edited by hardtimes; 08-28-2017 at 07:50 PM. Reason: '32 expert says this is rebuilt '32 pump |

Re: Model B fuel pump
Funny, I was wondering what would happen if I soaked the gasket in oil first.... are you selling the gaskets?

Re: Model B fuel pump
One of life's mysteries, at least for me, is how a Model B pump can command the sort of prices I see here and on eBay. There were no fewer than 300,000 of them produced in the day and they are simple pumps to restore as they have few moving parts, unlike their counterpart '32-'33 V8 pumps.

Re: Model B fuel pump
From what I have seen, someone (won't bother who) started over pricing them on EBay with a buy it now price. Others of us said oh crap, and started to hang on to what we have. I have three, although I have two motors, so one each plus a spare.

Re: Model B fuel pump
Jim,
I think you're right, but if no one is buying them at those prices you'd think that it might dawn on the sellers that they were pricing above what the market will bear. Maybe it will in the fullness of time. |
