I agree the piston will probably function as a piston. However, I would be concerned about the weight of the piston. Generally pistons are weighed in grams, and come as a matched set; that is they all weigh very close to the same weight. Sometimes you have to take a little metal off to achieve the same weight for all four pistons. I do not see how you could have a balanced set of pistons (all weighing the same) with that chunk missing. Using that piston may cause a vibration you will not like..
