What kind of radiator, block, how much aluminum, if any, what environment, what environmental extremes, what would the use of the vehicle be? I would fill out this self questionaire and then go to the various chem companies to see whos product fits the need, you cant ask the guy in cali on wetter about your ride in central and go with it, he may be all cast, you may be all aluminum. It takes a bit of research and bottle reading.

Whatever you end up using, do not use well water. Full of iron and other minerals that will lime up and tend to insulate your block. That's the reason you must "cook" these old blocks upon rebuild with rust/lime removing chemicals. Just like you'd dip a body to remove rust, paint etc etc. Body's are a whole other story because of the difficulty of removing or neutralizing the chemicals in the spot welded seams, but blocks do not have that issue.

How about we keep it simple?

In warm climates where it does not freeze, Distilled water and Purple Ice.

In cold climates, Distilled water and Antifreeze 50/50.

Aluminum and Cast Iron, This will work very well with both.

I have been doing this for years with VERY GOOD SUCCESS.

Just to complicate this discussion a little more I save the water from our dehumidifier and use that in the radiators and batteries. It might have a slight bit of dust in it maybe but always thought it should be free of minerals and be neutral.
