Question How to crank starter on +ground 6v

new to flat head V8
How can I crank the starter on my V8 engine with battery charger or jumper cables?
I now that the are positive ground, I just want to crank the starter
heads and manifold off and valves and pistons are good

starting restoration on Dads 5 window coupe deluxe, been sitting in garage for 50yrs. after water pump issues.

The starter will work with positive or negative ground, 6 or 12 volt. I would not think a charger would put out enough amperage to crank the engine, I would use a battery and jumper cables... Now, the terminal on the starter does not give much in the way of a connection, I can't remember what I've done, maybe vise grips on the nut at the starter, or use a real battery cable from the bat to the starter...

What are you attempting to do? With the heads off the engine should turn over easy by hand. Are you wanting to test the starter?

yes
just want to crank the starter, I have been turning it over by hand and all the valves and pistons are operating normal, just wanted to use the starter to see if all that is ok

hooked it up to the charger, had to tap the starter one time, 40amp and it cranks like a mother, now to get her running
