ford f1 cowl assy
Does anyone know if the bolt assy that holds the cowl handle assy together is a axel type(shoulder) bolt. A regular bolt dosn't make it work properly. I've tried a few different combinations trying to get it to open and close properly but so far no luck. All help deeply appreciated. Thank You, Mike

Re: ford f1 cowl assy
Are you asking about the bolt that is spring loaded and runs in a slot? Someone posted a pic with dimensions in your other thread. It's a regular bolt with a prevailing torque (self-locking) nut, that can be tightened part-way and not loosen.

Re: ford f1 cowl assy
I posted it.
No idea what Ford's actual part number is for that. Can't find a diagram in the parts books.... I'm guessing they expected you to either- A) replace the whole assembly or B) use a hardware store bolt Looking at that bolt, it looks like it has an awfully long shank for a bolt with that kind of overall length. Probably a longer 1/4" bolt, with the threaded end shortened, would do the job. |

bolt..... I just looked under my dash. A 1/4" bolt at 1 1/4" long has a .29" shoulder. I have one in my hand. I don't think that bolt is anything trick. I'll bet you'd need to have those washers with the shoulders though and pretty close to the spec in that drawing. |
