Default Installing MGB lever Shocks on 39 Pickup

I picked up 4 lever shocks from a MGB. My truck has none at all right now.

I bought 3” Ford links.

Have any of you done this install, and possibly have any photos?

Thanks!

I had a friend that had a '50 MG-TC, he went the other direction. Installed a hopped up '40 V8 60 in the MG hooked to the MG trans and a Hudson rear end. My friend used Ford shocks adapted to the MG shock links. I have several pix of the car in my pix file.

Can you please post pictures of the MGB shocks that you picked up? I'm curious to see what they look like and what provisions they have for mounting.

I can’t figure out how to attach a photo here yet.
Oh- and if anyone needs some of these Armstrong Shocks, my brother owns a British car scrap yard. Plenty available.

Those great big, goofy-looking shocks in the links above are for the front of an MG. The rears (also found on Healeys and other Euro sporty rides) are what you want, like those shown below. I used them on a '34 back in the '70s and they work great. These are called "ARMSTRONG" shocks. You have to be choosey about where you get them (MAYBE from SHAMPIPPLE's brother), because they have gotten rather pricey these days. Get them used off of eBay or such. Cute little boogers! DD

I've used MGB shocks on the rear of Model A's in the past. Fit the same bolt centres on the chassis rails. The arms are a bit shorter and I had to weld the shock balls in from the other side.

Swapped them out for a set of new Rotoshim shocks.

They're currently working on new designs for the later cars.

Is this what you are looking for? I can't find any good pictures of the rears but will look one more time. Not sure if these are the right shocks.

All I could find for the rears is this kind of bad picture of the mount

Rather than trying to 're-invent the wheel', why not use the tried and true tube shock conversion that has been very common for over fifty years on the Early V8 Fords.
C & G Early Ford Parts, for one lists the whole conversion kit on page 48 of their recent catalog..

It left the factory with lever shocks. Honestly I kind of like the novelty of them. This isn’t my daily driver or a Baja truck. Just an old cruiser. And I get all the lever shocks I want for free. My brother had at least 80 MGB rear shocks on the shelf at last count. And they are rebuildable easily.

Thanks all for your replies. I’ll make them fit.

How much does your brother charge for a pair of shocks that still are working?
Thanks

Just an FYI to anyone who may want to have their original early Ford shocks rebuilt, consider contacting:

Andy rebuilt all 4 shocks on my ‘41, I had him do the fronts one year and the rears another, very pleased with his work.

These came with some 34 stuff I bought. Brackets look too good to be home made, holes match a 34 frame, no Idea what they are from

He does a good job on rebuilding originals, plus it looks as though he also does the MG shocks based on info on his website. Andy was trained by Bill Wzorek and took over his business 4 or 5 years ago.

My shocks were missing when I got the truck. So none to rebuild.

If anyone needs MGB shocks, pm me. I’ll put you in touch with my brother.

Will they work on a 36 coupe? Mine are shot on my coupe. it's either rebuild or go to tubes.
