Muffler Question

It was brought to my attention that some after market mufflers that were manufactured over the years had a lot of back pressure. From what I understand the original stock muffler or the Aries that is offered today as a reproduction have much less.

That said I decided to look at my muffler to see what I had. From the measurement I took it's 29 1/4'' from seam to seam and 35 1/2'' from the back seam to the end of the tail pipe. It may be an original but I am not sure.

From the below photos can someone help me identify my muffler?

I agree with you but I am not sure when Aries came into production. My car spent it's life in South Florida so it was never subjected to road salt but the muffler is rusty. This must have taken some time.

If it quacks like a duck then its a stock muffler. Idle the car and retard the spark and the stock muffler will have the typical Model A sound. I don't know how to describe the sound but you will know it when you hear it. If your hearing is good you will also hear the typical Model A sound when accelerating.

I just listened to a youtube video and my car does have the typical Model A Sound. Based on the condition this muffler quacks like a duck so I am going to say it's an original.

When I think about how short the life of a steel muffler is on most cars I think it's nice to have the original 92 year old muffler. Would you recommend doing nothing to it or blasting the rust off and using some high temp black paint on it? The underside of my car is very clean and the rusty muffler does stand out.

I think the muffler on the Snyder's sight is an Aries. From what I understand the Aries is an exact copy of the original.

Did anyone else make a muffler that was 29 1/4'' from seam to seam and 35 1/2 from back seam to tail pipe? That's what I have so I am not sure what ese it could be but an Aires or original. I do not think Aires have been around long enough to rust up like mine.

No offense but I doubt it's and original. Most likely a replacement along the way.

No offence at at all. I started to look into this because if my muffler was a replacement that had high back pressure I wanted to replace it with an Aires. Based on the 29 1/2'' seam to seam and the 35 1/2 back seam to tailpipe I think it's an Aries or an original. Were any replacements made to those dimensions that were not Aires or original? If so were they any good? I am not looking to swap out a good muffler because of surface rust.

Is that the regular stainless or the high performance stainless muffler that sound different? or both?

Aries website mentions that the high performance mufflers are louder but does not mention anything about the stainless muffler.

My stainless did discolor and didn’t stay shinny stainless
But I sorta expected that as long as I had it(not but a few years) ;it did not rust or scale

So based off the photos is this an Aries, original muffler or a aftermarket muffler with high back pressure?

If Snyder's muffler is an Aries your muffler looks to me to be a different muffler.
I don't know the dimensions of the Snyder's muffler, but your muffler looks to be
slimmer and longer.

I have been looking at the Aries sight and to be honest I just cannot be 100% sure looking at the small photos they have. Maybe I am just getting hung up on the 29 1/4'' and 35 1/2'' measurements. Just want to be sure before I make the decision to get a new Aries Muffler as that would be a waste of money if the car already has an Aries or original.

I have a Gaslight muffler, in the 70s at Hershey Gaslight brought a whole truckload of mufflers, 20$ each, 6 for 100$, they sold a mountain of them that year , it doesn't seem restrictive, managed to get 67 mph with one and stock engine, it's almost time, getting a small rust hole , I will wait till it falls off, got one more of that batch and figure it will outlast me ----- so would the "Aires " muffler give more speed???

I understand not wanting to waste money. If you are satisfied with the performance of your muffler I would stay with it until you need one. I also
believe that when the time comes for a change I would look into the Snyder
muffler, as they say it is an authentic copy of the O.E.M. muffler. (for that model a sound).

With all the knowledge on hear I was hoping someone could say without question what Muffler I have. I guess I will have to find someone with an Aries and take a look for myself. Thanks for all the comments.
