Well sadly not all is right at Isky. Working on a recent build using a new Isky cam that was a new casting upon checking the cam timing per the instructions it degreed in at 119 on the CL. In other words it was way off the timing card specs at 119 the engine would have been a dog. Now most people would never take the time to degree in a cam on a flathead since its extremely difficult to make an adjustment however its worth the effort even though its definitely time consuming.

Back in the day, we had adjustable cam gears. I think I have one someplace. However we'd elongate the cam bolt holes and use sterwashers to hold them in place, and it worked.. Unfortunately moving the cam around didn't do much. Gramps..

That is very true with street grinds.
With a radius lifter grind moving the cam 1 degree can move you from first to second place.

Hey Pete, if you're running a 404-A grind, what type of cam timing do you like to setup the cam for? I know that is a very broad question (depends on the application, track, etc). am just interested in your thoughts on the subject . . . the wisdom of experience!

Ronnie, are you talking 119 for the LSA or the ICL?

ICL can be changed but LSA can't.

I don't get much feedback lately but the last I heard, from 2 guys that have engines I did in the near past, one is running the cam 2 degrees retarded and the other, straight up.
It makes a noticable difference on some tracks, especially with the tires allowed now.
