Default New metal fuel line into 40 tank question

This may seem silly but I seem to have read that the metal fuel line should only go into the bung about 1/2”. First is that true? Second, if that’s true, how does it pick up fuel at the bottom of the tank? Thanks!

Silly or not, that's all you need to extend the line beyond the fitting.
The ferrule was soldered to the line originally. That's something I always do as it eliminates the possibility of air getting sucked by the ferrule / line.

Kube, as always thank you! So is there a tube or something inside
The tank that pulls fuel from near the bottom?

The "bung" has a tube attached on it's bottom that extends to almost the bottom of the tank. It sucks the gas up to the bung where you will attach the fuel line. Ford used an odd size compresson fitting. Drake reproduces it.
