Default Oil flow conversion

I ran across this photo in my archive and did not save any other information with it.
Has anyone run across one of these before?
Seems like a simple solution to the conversion........

4 of my 5 running flathead cars have that setup for a spin on oil filter under the car. The port back IN from the filter needs to be drilled and tapped into the block. The red part inboard is tapped and plugged which blocks the oil from going in the original path and forces it through the filter.

Tim, if I'm not mistaken, I believe the Canadian block has the inlet return, making this a good option, but the American block would still need that plus the horizontal drill/tap for the grub plug, IMHO making the O ring conversion not quite as simple as it seems.

Yes they can be drilled but this would simplify the conversion.
I haven’t inspected my other 59a block yet but I’m thinking the horizontal passage in between would accept the “plug”
The un drilled galley passage on top of the 59a bell housing has a casted pad where the return port is drilled/inserted.

Like most things that seem complicated, logically, they make sense. Not the way I do it, because of the special polt. I just thap the passageway , install a allen screw (grub). then the outlet to the filter can be uset to get the oil sd well as the upper outlet. Most of this stuff can be found in the junk box. Never throw anything away.

Military blocks were set up like that for an oil cooler-WW2 product. Newc

The amount of work and expense it requires to make the custom machined plug is a whole lot more than simply taping the inner passage and adding the allen grub screw as Old Ron wrote above. Using the custom machined plug eliminates that side port which is a perfect location for the oil pressure gauge. Without that side port the gauge needs to be added elsewhere now that's adding more complication to a simple solution.

That’s a very clean application.
But I’m with the other guys,,,,,,,I drilled and tapped the passage for a pipe plug .
Then I still have the side hole for a sender unit or whatever .
