Default running board adhesive

I guess they won't ship running board glue any more, too dangerous. What are the barners using? When I tell the hardware store I need something to glue rubber to metal, I get a VERY puzzled look. Thanks Chuck.

3 M original contac cement. That is what suppliers have been shipping with the running board covers for years. I bought mine for about 1/2 what the suppliers wanted for it at Lowes. Marv

3M 8090 spray contact cement, multiple "spray coats" after cleaning with lacquer thinner and scotch brite pads--on 40 covers (and all others make sure they fit before glueing) at the front of most 40 covers it is almost impossible to get them to fit the curve with out some cutting and fitting

I have used Plio Bond adhesive with success on three sets of boards. Glue does not stick to paint, so be sure your boards are paint free where the glue goes. A sandblasted surface gives the glue lots of "tooth" to hold onto.

The rubber that raps back up under the bottom edge is where it's hard to keep glued good. I used Dow 5200 they make it in black and white so I'm not sure of the number. I put a small bead along the metal, wrapped the rubber up over the (5200) and used thin wood strips or paint stirring paddles and clamps to hold it a few days, this will never come loose. G.M.

The Weldwood contact cement came with mine. Don't skimp, lay it on nice and thick

41 Fordor is correct. My mind kicked out again. It is weldwood contac cement and not 3 M. I was right about buying it at Lowes however. Sorry Marv
