Default Brake Bleeding on 1940 Sedan

Weather is getting nice in Northern Michigan and I'll be out putting on that last rear brake cylinder soon and start the bleeding process again.

Quick question....when bleeding should I leave the Master Cylinder open or close it up with the plug each time I fill it up ?

Thx.... Mike

I always replace the plug each time I "pump". Remember, pump slowly.

You can cap it if you want, but it's not necessary. Just remember to keep the fluid level in the master cylinder high enough so you don't pull any air into the system.

Better with cap on, even if only loosely. There can be a little jet of fluid from the recuperation port that can come over the top if not careful.

I agree with Mart. Without the cap on, when you pump it, you'll get fluid all over the place.

That is a FACT! Certainly isn't worth the chance of brake fluid on your carpet, or God forbid....on any painted surface!! DD

Monday Feb. 15th (two weeks ago) it was about 18º-ish....a "monumentally Cool" day for us in Houston, for sure. It was that next day (Tuesday 16th) that got us....about 7º or so. That's nippy! Our power was off for 47 hours thru that....NO heat! We're waiting on our insurance adjuster, finally this afternoon, to look at burst pipe damage. Many had it a lot worse than us, for sure. We hit 81º yesterday.

Coop .....

I feel sorry for you guys down there. My Neighbors brother is having a hell of a time with that storm damage and then to make matters worse he got a HUGE electric bill ! I shouldn't complain about Northern Michigan, but the weather does change day to day pretty quickly here !

Good luck !

Mike
