Center section of WHAT? There's a center section of a rear axle, but I doubt any of those were 'STAMPED STEEL'. Where else would we find a CENTER SECTION on a post-war Merc? Could you possibly be talking about a 'stamped steel' bell housing like found on '49 thru early '51 Mercs? DD

Used to own a '47 Merc. convertible back in the late 50's'
The originals were cast pot metal and I do recall that aftermarket (not Ford)
replacements were available that were formed sheet metal.

Really, this ain't no "kidding" matter. Keeping in mind that besides the antique cars we all play with here, that MOST of us folks on the forum are getting pretty friggen' antiquated as well. DD

So true V8: Let's hope we are all classified as "keepers" for the foreseeable future.
I always worry when the phone rings late at night.

Buncha weird stuff in the 46-48 era. The V8 Times had a multi-issue series on some of this stuff, back when. Aluminum floor boards, aluminum running boards were a couple I think I recall. I don't recall the specific part you mention, however, you might consider a little research, either in the club book(s), or old issues of the V8 Times. Just idea/opinion.

Related to aftermarket grille parts, they were available for '51 Mercs. also.

Yes indeed, what you have is an aftermarket grille replacement.
These were offered for many different makes and models of vehicles.
Interesting thing is (and to the best of my recollection) that an original part
for the Mercury could have been purchased for $8-$12 and the after market one for less.

There were stamped steel aftermarket grills for 1941 Mercury’s. I have a set somewhere.
