Ten A's from Worcester County are making our way taking the ferry out of New London to Orient Point on Wednesday staying overnight out in the Hamptons and then making our way to the meet hotel on Thursday. Looking forward to seeing our L.I. club friends and other NE Clubs. Keith

We will be there Thursday with our 1928 79-A Panel Truck. It is the first time the truck has been seen publicly in over 30 years and never shown on the East coast! This is our first meet with this vehicle.

The 66th Model "A" Ford New England Meet starts next week on Long Island, NY. Registrations are down in comparison to prior meets which might cause a financial hardship to the host club. In my opinion, most Model A'ers are senior citizens on fixed incomes, so the present lousy economy is making out-of-state meets unaffordable. Also a factor is that the New England Area is high-cost to begin with.

On a more pleasant note, I wish all of those traveling by Model "A" to the meet a safe journey with no roadside clinics.

I know the round trip ferry for us, truck and trailer and 4 adults is $564. I know there are other options to get there, but we don't care. We also understand it costs money to have fun and enjoyment doing what we love!

The current economy has added lots of costs to hosting the New England Meet. Perhaps a new administration in DC will make it more affordable for the 67th New England Meet. Kathy & I view the New England Meet as a vacation, and fortunately we can afford going to the meets. I am looking forward to seeing you all next week. Bon voyage!

I had host hotel reservations until I cancelled them last week. Our club has a tour scheduled for that weekend and after looking at the cost of the dinners ($70.00/person), I decided to skip this one.............

The meals are expensive, and we have inflation and the high cost of everything in New York to thank for that. You can decide for yourself who's to blame. People on fixed incomes will find it hard or impossible to pony up the money to attend the meet. But IMHO, we need to support these local clubs that take on the substantial financial risk of running these meets. With fewer people willing to spend the money to attend these meets, fewer clubs will be willing to take the risk of going bankrupt and we won't have these meets to attend any longer.

The meal prices at a hotel are very pricey, so future meets need a less expensive meal package that will make the meet more affordable. In my opinion, the meals need to be less formal, without professional entertainment and no dance floor.

How often do the ferries run, and what is the cost?

Ferries out of New London, CT run every hour, ~ 1 hr 20 min crossing to Orient Point, NY
Cost for a round trip for the Model A was ~ $120 for the A and two people. We arrived on Wednesday with nine A's out of Worcester County and are enjoying the Island and Meet despite the high extreme heat and humidity. The Long Island Club is doing a excellent job hosting the meet. Keith
