Checking 32 B Compression
Have never checked compression on any engine so need some accurate info
on the correct process. Any comments will be appreciated. Engine is a stock 32 4 cylinder. Have borrowed gauges from a friend. |

Re: Checking 32 B Compression
Remove the plugs, place gauge, spin over 2 to 3 times using starter with the carb OPEN .

Re: Checking 32 B Compression
What head do you have? First thing to do is check to see that the gauge will fit in the spark plug hole, if it won't you need to start by finding an adapter to a smaller plug. Be sure the battery is charged, you can't spin it fast enough with the hand crank. Next see post #2.

Re: Checking 32 B Compression
My head is the 7/8" spark plug size holes and one of the gauges I've borrowed
is large enough to accommodate that six So, I'm to have all 4 plugs removed while this process is being done? |

Re: Checking 32 B Compression
Ball park gauge readings should be 14.7 times the 4.6 compression ratio of a stock Model B = 68psig. Dynamic effect due to piston motion will raise the gauge reading a bit more, into the low 70s.

Re: Checking 32 B Compression
Engine should be warmed up first, or at least started to insure rings and cylinders are oiled. Do a dry test first, and if you want, put a squirt of oil in each cyl. and re-test. This will let you know if the rings are sealing well.
