Shock Confusion Brass Model A shocks from Chicago revisited
Just trying to post some pics of those Brass Model A shocks from Chicago that we talked about in the last post. Maybe it will help somebody Identify. Not sure how good the shocks work yet or how good they were suppose to be.

Look at the patent number. Go to the patent web site and enter the number. It will tell you the story.

Re: Shock Confusion Brass Model A shocks from Chicago revisited
Brian Thanks for the suggestion. I did go out to the site, and Peter Buciak of Chicago patened these in 1969. Interesting BTW, NICE Slant Windshield pic on side. That's what I'm working on now. Is your color scheme Chicle/Copra ? Is that the PPG paint that is to the green side. Those are the colors I like.

Re: Shock Confusion Brass Model A shocks from Chicago revisited
Map,
I'm sure these are the shocks from Chicago The last time I saw the son was at the Turlock Swap Meet sometime in the late 70's or 80's; he was selling full sets, including arms and mountaing bolts; it was what was left after his father, Pete, passed away. This is when he took advanced payment, from a friend, and never sent the shock set. Eventally the Chicago tel No. was disconnected. Ron |

Re: Shock Confusion Brass Model A shocks from Chicago revisited
All of the after market shocks that are sold by the major catalog companys are not adjustable or refillable. when they start leaking they are done. I had purchased two sets years ago and both sets started to leak after only 1500 to 2000 miles and they can not be refilled plus they are 50-50 action and do not have any way of bleeding the air out of them.
That is why I decided to manufacture new ones the right way so they are adjustable and have a oil reservoir so that the air bubbles can be removed. Also they can be refilled and rebuilt. Don't waist your money on any of the old repops! The original shocks where very well designed for the Ford Model A. Tube shocks ride rough they do not have a soft jounce when you hit a bump and the rebound can not be adjusted.

Bill Stipe is 29 Red Rocket and here is his website:
Bill Stipe He has this reputation for a quality product. The only catch is quality does not mean cheap. I think the shocks are in the $900 price range, of course real working shocks on the A makes for a whole different car that is a real joy to drive at highway speeds. |
