No, you re correct. Halon was deemed to destroy the ozone layer, so now you buy Halotron, a slightly different gas. It works the same way. I'm in the habit of calling them all Halon. Do not use in an enclosed area or you will suffocate.

I have my 2nd back-up 5# Halotron in my trunk, but my primary 5 lb. is fastened to the floor of the car in the front seat, right behind my feet. If I need it, I do not want a delay while I go back and mess with the trunk. This one can exit the car with me as I head to the fire.

That little Halotron you have in your trunk will not go very far on a car fire.

Sorry.

Thank you - I hadn't heard of these before; I particularly like the "no expiration date" aspect of them

In 1976, my ex-wife's VW bug caught fire on I-75 in Florida.
Fortunately a passer-by had an extinguisher and put it out with very minor damage.
Since then I have always carried an extinguisher in every vehicle but have never needed it.....

We were on tour a few years ago in Yellowstone Park when a fire started in a Model A. The foot starter rod did not have a jam nut attached holding the rod into the starter . The rod came loose dropped down and caused a direct short to the battery which turned red hot causing the carpet to catch fire.
The owner now has a jam nut installed and a fire extinguisher.
