Default 1951 Ford Shift Rods

Just had my 3sp,od transmission rebuilt. The builder suggested that I adjust the shift rods to make sure it is going into gear. When I shift into 2nd it doesn't seem to go all the way in and periodically jumps out of 2nd. High gear does stay in gear and doesn't jump out but the shift handle on the column is way low towards my lap. My question is this. Do I have to elongate the rod or do I have to shorten the rod?? Please help! Thank You!
