Cutouts (mechanical and diode) just prevent the battery from discharging when the car is off. When the car is running, with just a cutout, once your battery is fully charged, it will KEEP charging as long as the car is running. Voltage Regulators, on the other hand, actually turn off the charge to the battery once it is fully charged and turn back on the charge current if the battery becomes slightly discharged. NOTE: I'm still looking for more original Ford cutout cores. I also repair Fun Projects Voltage Regulators that have been damaged! Jeff
