Default A couple of 32 ford questions. Wire and fuel pipe routing.

Hello gentlemen.
A couple of quick questions.
Which side of the car's frame does the fuel pipe run on a V8 car? Assume LHD if you want to say driver's side or passenger side.
What is the routing, generally for the wires to the rear lights? Is it along the frame? If so, which side?
Many thanks in advance.
Mart.

Mart,

I've had a half dozen or so of '32 U.S.-manufactured RHD exports over the years and restored one of them using copies of the original engineering drawings to make various missing or worn out parts given the difficulty of finding RHD replacements. With the possible exception of a couple of likely mis-built Canadian RHD exports to New Zealand, the rest all followed the design intent of keeping the fuel line on the opposite side of exhaust system, which in the case of V8s, the exhaust system was routed on the side opposite the steering column. (Four-cylinder exhaust system and fuel line routing was always on the right side due to the location of the intake and exhaust manifolds and fuel pump on the right side of the engine.)

Because the brake light switch was mounted on the right side of the transmission in RHD vehicles and the standard single tail lamp also was mounted on the right side, the rear lamp wires were routed along the inside of the frame rail on the right side (four or V8).

Your next question may well be regarding the routing of the fuel line to the fuel pump in a RHD '32 V8 given the inlet on an original '32 pump is on the left side. In the photo below, the combination flex/rigid line on the left is for RHD V8 passenger cars. (The one on the right with the much longer flex portion is for all '32 V8 commercial vehicles (except sedan deliveries) and big trucks with V8 engines LHD or RHD.

Thanks David. I think you might be assuming my car is RHD, but it's a LHD American spec car.
But applying the logic you describe, For my LHD car, both fuel line and wires for the tail lights ought to be run down the left frame rail.
Hopefully I have read that right and made the right assumption.

Thanks for the detailed reply. You really are the man for these type of questions.
Much appreciated.
Mart.
