ford holley 94 carb only 1 yr old
i installed a dennis carpenter 94 carb 1 year ago. lately when i drive the '37 which is almost everyday even after being warmed up the idle will creep up. when i come to a turn or a stop[ i need to tap the accelerator pedal to decrease the fast idle. not sure what the cause. linkage seems fine, throttle and choke rods not creeping. any body hjave any problems with new 94s from den carp? thanks tom.

If you're sure the return spring is doing it's job, then chek to make sure the throttle lever on the carb throttle shaft is still peened well, and not sloppy. If sloppy the shaft may not rotate as much as the lever, and cause an inconsistent idle speed. This happened to me one time, and was confusing at first. I peend the lever tighly on the throttle shaft and worked very good after that.

Check all the linkages for binding. Lubricate any moving parts

If the fit is sloppy between the lever and brass shaft it can be peened to take out the slop, or the shaft can be drilled and threaded for a short 6-32 screw and washer to hold the lever secure to the shaft. Not saying this is your problem for sure, but have had it happen to me. Sal |

Re: ford holley 94 carb only 1 yr old
hey thanks sal and ross f1 for advice and pic.i'll get out and have a look see at the lever and shaft. last summer i replaced probably the at least 2nd carb for this old car with a brand new 94 from dennis carp. kinda nice it seemed to have been set pretty much. i just had to adjust the air/fuel mix screws slightly i suppose cause i put a little 4" hot rod air cleaner vs that big heavy not such good shape oe oil bath. tom.

Start at the pedal. Be sure the floor mat is not binding the pedal push rod.
